Prospective Marriage Visa

The prospective marriage visa (Subclass 300) is granted to people who are engaged and want to get married to an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. The visa allows the applicant to stay in Australia for 9 months and apply for the Partner (subclass 820 and 801) visa within that period.

What are the requirements for this visa?

For Visa Applicants

  • You must be 18 years old or more
  • You must be outside of Australia at the time of lodging an application and when the visa is granted
  • You must meet the relationship criteria
  • You must be sponsored by your fiance/fiancee
  • You must meet health and character requirements
  • You must repay or have arrangements to repay the outstanding debts to the Australian Government

For Sponsors

  • You must be the fiancé of the visa applicant
  • You must not hold or have held certain visas

What are the costs associated with applying for the Prospective Marriage Visa (300 Visa)?

Department of Home Affairs Provisional Partner visa application fees are:

  • Primary applicant – AU$7,715, Adult dependent – AU$3,860, Child Dependent – AU$1,935
  • Credit card surcharge (if applicable)

Other fees that may be applicable:

  • Medical Examination fees (as applicable)
  • Police Clearance Certificate (as applicable)
  • Translations/Certifications (as applicable)

How long does the Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300) process take?

Once the Prospective Marriage Visa (300 Visa) application is lodged it takes between 17-20  months for the Department of Home Affairs to process the application.
